To wrap up their unit on civics, 7th Grade did a government simulation! Each class had a President, a Supreme Court, a House of Representatives, and a Senate. Congress worked on passing laws for the country, the President vetoed or signed the proposals into law, and the Supreme Court reviewed the constitutionality of the laws. 7th grade passed all kinds of proposals from raising military pay and the minimum wage, to taxes on tobacco and nicotine products! Other proposals such as banning people from listening to Taylor Swift’s music did not garner enough support in Congress to reach the President’s desk.
