Mission Statement of Saint Agnes School
Saint Agnes School exists to provide excellence in Catholic education while inspiring and empowering our students to live the Gospel message of Jesus Christ. As compassionate and faithful Christians, we continue to pursue our spiritual journey, achieve our highest academic potential, and be stewards of the Catholic faith to others.
FROM THE PRINCIPAL
We are just nine days away from our 3rd annual Oktoberfest. As mentioned in an email earlier this week we are still in need of many volunteers to help at the event. There is only about 60 percent of the volunteer spots filled. I challenge each parent to volunteer for at least one shift during Oktoberfest weekend. You can sign up to volunteer at http://bit.ly/saintagnesoktoberfest2017. Students in grades 6-8 may sign up to volunteer at http://bit.ly/saintagnesoktoberfestjunior2017.
As we have the first two years, we are also selling ride tickets through the school office. Advanced-sale ride coupons are available for $20 per day or $50 for the entire weekend. A flyer with information on ride coupons will be sent home with students on Thursday.
I also wanted to inform you that we will be giving away a $250 Saint Agnes tuition credit at 7 p.m. on Sunday evening! All you have to do is show up to Oktoberfest Sunday, October 8, and be present if your name is drawn. I thank the Oktoberfest committee, all volunteers, and sponsors in advance for making this a great community event! We look forward to celebrating Oktoberfest next week! ~ Mr. Hoyt
Please Complete the Scholastic Parent Survey: We currently have 28 percent of parents who have completed the Scholastic “Family Engagement Survey.” Remember that if we receive at least 50 percent participation we will earn $1000 to use to purchase Scholastic items. The survey must be completed by October 8 and is available at https://hanoverresearch.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_3xGfZbSdlmkYADP.
Spirit Wear Day Tomorrow: Tomorrow is a Saint Agnes spirit wear day. Students may wear a Saint Agnes top, their gym uniform shorts, and other Saint Agnes gear purchased through our spirit wear program.
Afternoon Car Line This Friday: Saint Agnes will be hosting a Nationalization Ceremony in the school gymnasium this Friday afternoon. There will be several cars in the Church parking lot until 2 p.m. or so. For that reason, we would like to request anyone coming through the car line wait until about 2:15 p.m. on Friday.
Late Start Day Next Wednesday: This is a reminder that we will have a late-start next Wednesday, October 4. The school day will begin at 8:45 a.m. The cafeteria doors will be open to welcome students at 8:10 a.m.
Early Dismissal October 6: We will dismiss at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 6, so set-up can be complete for Oktoberfest.
No School October 9: We will not be in school on Monday, October 9, so tear down and clean up from Oktoberfest can take place.
Sycamore School Tip of the Week: So far we are receiving good feedback from our transition to the Sycamore Education system. If you could use some additional help, the following are two documents that will help guide you through the process to get to the class pages and to get to your student's grades: Class pages and Student grades
MAP Testing Info: We have established our MAP testing dates for this school year. Grades 1-8 will be MAP tested three times throughout the school year. Our first testing session will occur October 10-20. However, each student will be administered only three tests. In most cases no student will take more than one test per day and tests last no more than an hour. More information will be provided for parents throughout the MAP testing process.
Lego League: Are you in grades 5-8 and interested in being a part of the Robotics Team here at Saint Agnes? We have two Mindstorm robots, thanks to donations from the Big Blue Bash, so we may be able to field two teams this year. Meetings will take place on Fridays from October to February. Additional meetings may be added as we get closer to competition. Interested students will need to fill in the application here and return it to the office by Friday, September 29. We have limited space available on a team. In the event that we have too many applicants, we will evaluate the applications received, consider the number of spots available, receive input from teachers, and use our best judgment to determine which students will be asked to participate.
Grandparents Days: The dates for this year’s Grandparents Days have been set. So that we can better accommodate schedules and parking we will host two Grandparents Days this school year. Here are the dates and time frames for both:
K-4th Grade Grandparents Day – Thursday, November 16, 12:30-2:00 p.m.; Classroom visits and program (K-4 students will have a permission slip that can be signed to allow grandparents to take students home at the end of the school day.)
5th-8th Grade Grandparents Day – Friday, November 17, 9:20 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.; Mass and classroom visits (5-8 students will not be permitted to leave school early on this day.)
Please note that the 5th-8th Grade Grandparents Day will be held the day following the 8th grade celebration of Confirmation.
Family Service Hours: For those families new to Saint Agnes and as a reminder to all, each school family is expected to share 20 hours of their time and talent over the course of the school year in one or more of a number of school/parish activities. Not only does each family's contribution provide needed service and helpful savings to the parish and school, but also actively engages each family and strengthens our parish/school community. Your cooperation in meeting this expectation is valued and appreciated. Some families have already figured out that Sycamore permits service hour tracking using the "Service Log". This is a much more user-friendly tracking system for all stakeholders. As such, effective immediately, we are asking families to enter service hours using the Service Log. This can be found under the "My School" tab on the left hand side of your family's home screen in Sycamore. We are no longer entering service hours through the school website.
If you have already entered hours for this school year using the website, please find a few moments at your convenience to enter your completed service in the new system. To help streamline the process of entering hours, we have broken activities down to seven categories which are listed here. When entering your service activity, simply select the category, enter the date of the activity, enter the number of hours, and specify the activity in the box for "Notes." Should you have questions or concerns, please reach out to Oak Martin (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Mr. Hoyt. We hope you find this process more user-friendly and efficient.
Volunteer Opportunities: Looking for a way to help out around school, but don't know where to start? Here is a collective link to all our recurring volunteer opportunities throughout the year:
http://signup.com/go/GpYmNi. It includes Lunchroom, Playground, APPLE, and Faculty Lunch 'n Learn. Thanks for all you do for Saint Agnes! We couldn't do it without all our great parents.
Artists of the Week: Congratulations to Mrs. Eckerle's Artists of the Week: Ella Kruze, Sophia Santos, Hannah Dannenberg, Luke Hassman, Mary Pikar, Noah Hodge and Kacee Bennett. They have all worked hard on some great pieces of art. Check out the photos at the end of the newsletter.

Box Tops for Education: Box Tops is a great program that allows us to earn free money for our school, just by clipping the little coupons from the package of participating products. Also, there is a new Box Tops app that allows you to earn bonus box tops on purchases just by taking a picture of your receipt. This is very easy and fairly generous on the bonuses, even for small purchases. You can find more information here: http://www.boxtops4education.com/bonusapp. We have had great participation in past years and have been earning $1500-2000 for our school annually. Every fall and spring we have a classroom competition to see who can send in the most and the winning classroom will earn a special treat and extra recess! And now... it's time to start sending in those Box Tops! If you can trim them before you send them, that is great, but we'll take them however you send them!
The Saint Agnes PTO Annual Big Blue Bash: Our kickoff planning meeting is tonight, September 27, at 7 p.m. in the school library. All school parents are welcome to come to learn more about this year's event and to see where there are opportunities to help.
The 3rd Annual Saint Agnes Oktoberfest will be held October 6-8. The schedule for the weekend’s activities can be found here.
Grand Raffle Ticket Sales: Each school family has now received raffle tickets to be sold. Parish families received them in the mail over the summer. Non-parish families received them through kid mail last week. Raffle ticket sales are currently down from sales over past years. All school families are encouraged to sell at least four raffle tickets for the event. Raffle ticket sales may be turned into the school and parish offices. If you would like more raffle tickets they may be picked up from either office, as well.
Concession Stand Volunteers Needed: We are looking for volunteers to staff the Saint Agnes Soccer Field Concession stand on Saturdays this fall season. You do not have to be participating in soccer to volunteer. If you are interested in helping please sign-up via this link: www.SignUpGenius.com/go/409094BA5AA2BA3F85-concession. If you are interested in helping with logistics and coordination, email Tim McHugh at email@example.com.
Would You Like To Understand the MASS Better?: "The Lamb of God," "The Bread of Life," "The Body and the Blood of Christ"... these are phrases we know from the Mass. But do we understand what they mean in the greater and deeper context of Scripture and Church teaching? Attending Mass should bring us closer to Christ, but understanding it and praying it is often difficult. The good news is that you can understand the Mass, and “Lectio: Eucharist,” provides an opportunity for you to explore the “source and summit” of our Catholic faith. Saint Agnes will begin this video series on Wednesday, October 4, at 1 p.m., repeated at 7 p.m., in the rectory conference room. There is no fee and no book to purchase. Just come and enjoy! Why not come to Bible study before you pick up the kids from school every Wednesday? For more information or to register for the study please email firstname.lastname@example.org or call the rectory office at (859) 431-1802.
Rosary Congress for Peace: Saint Agnes Church will host Eucharistic Exposition and Adoration on October 10 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. During each hour of Adoration, a Rosary and the Divine Mercy Chaplet will be prayed.
Youth Day Rosary and Mass: A Youth Day Rosary and Mass will take place Saturday, October 7, at 11 a.m. at Our Lady's Farm in Falmouth, KY. Please arrive a few minutes early to actively take part in saying the Rosary. Woolfest will be taking place in Falmouth so alternate driving route is advisable. If you have questions please call (859) 647-1213.
Duke TIP Opportunity for Grades 4-7: On October 14, Covington Latin will be hosting courses in many different subject areas for students. To learn more about these courses at Covington Latin click here. Registration is due by October 6. The classes offered this month can be found here. If you or your friends or family are Duke TIP students and in grades 4-7, you are welcome to participate. If you know someone not in Duke TIP there are ten open spaces for non-Duke TIP students that have a letter from their school stating that they are academically gifted. For more information about the Duke TIP program click here.
Walking with Purpose: This is a Catholic Women's Bible study that is fresh and relevant and is currently offered at St. Pius X and Blessed Sacrament parishes. Click here for more information.
