Mission Statement of Saint Agnes School
Saint Agnes School exists to provide excellence in Catholic education while inspiring and empowering our students to live the Gospel message of Jesus Christ. As compassionate and faithful Christians, we continue to pursue our spiritual journey, achieve our highest academic potential, and be stewards of the Catholic faith to others.
FROM THE PRINCIPAL
With the setup of Oktoberfest already underway please be advised of our afternoon car line procedures this week. We will most likely be moving the front of the car line all the way to the end of Mulloy Drive near Old State Road. We will also be squeezing as many lines in between festival booths as possible. Please be alert to staff and volunteer instruction when arriving in the car line this week.
I would also like to ask that any regular bus riders remain bus riders on Friday. Space for our car lines will especially be at a premium on Friday. The fewer cars we have coming through the car line the more smoothly it will run. Thank you for your patience this week! I look forward to seeing most of you this weekend at Oktoberfest! ~ Mr. Hoyt
The 3rd Annual Saint Agnes Oktoberfest will take place this weekend! The schedule for the weekend’s activities can be found here.
Volunteering: Please sign up for another volunteer shift! We currently have about 75 percent of volunteer shifts filled. We especially need students in grades 6 and above to volunteer for the kids’ games. We only have about 60 percent of the kids’ game shifts filled. Sycamore School Tip of the Week: Did you know that the parent/student directory is on Sycamore School? It is easy to find and easy to use. The best thing is that it will always be there and we can update it through the year as needed. Click here for an info sheet on how to access the directory.
Grandparents Days: The dates for this year’s Grandparents Days have been set. So that we can better accommodate schedules and parking we will host two Grandparents Days this school year. Here are the dates and time frames for both:
K-4 – Thursday, November 16, 12:30-2:00 p.m.
5th-8th – Friday, November 17, 9:20 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
Family Service Hours: Family service hours may be logged under the "My School" tab on the left hand side of your family's home screen in Sycamore. We are no longer entering service hours through the school website. To help streamline the process of entering hours, we have broken activities down to seven categories which are listed here. When entering your service activity, simply select the category, enter the date of the activity, enter the number of hours, and specify the activity in the box for "Notes." Should you have questions or concerns, please reach out to Oak Martin (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Mr. Hoyt. We hope you find this process more user-friendly and efficient.
Volunteer Opportunities: Looking for a way to help out around school, but don't know where to start? Here is a collective link to all our recurring volunteer opportunities throughout the year: http://signup.com/go/GpYmNi. It includes Lunchroom, Playground, APPLE, and Faculty Lunch 'n Learn. Thanks for all you do for Saint Agnes! We couldn't do it without all our great parents.
Artists of the Week: Congratulations to Mrs. Eckerle's Artists of the Week: Charlie Ink, Chloe Anneken, Lindsey Carothers, Emery Metzler, Jared Reese and Juliana Wehner. They have all worked hard on some great pieces of art. Check out the photos at the end of the newsletter.
Box Tops for Education: Don't forget to send in those Box Tops for our fall challenge! Every homeroom is collecting them. Box Tops is a great program that allows us to earn free money for our school just by clipping the little coupons from the package of participating products. Also, there is a new Box Tops app that allows you to earn bonus box tops on purchases just by taking a picture of your receipt. This is very easy and fairly generous on the bonuses, even for small purchases. You can find more information here: http://www.boxtops4education.com/bonusapp. We have had great participation in past years and have been earning $1500-2000 for our school annually. Every fall and spring we have a classroom competition to see who can send in the most and the winning classroom will earn a special treat and extra recess! If you can trim them before you send them, that is great, but we'll take them however you send them!
Volleyball News: We are super excited to host our first volleyball tournament at Saint Agnes for 3rd grade. It is called the "Pumpkin Smash" and will be a fun Halloween-themed tournament, complete with costumes! The dates are October 14 and 15 and we would love for our Saint Agnes parents and children to consider donating their time to this tournament. The goal is to raise enough money this year for new volleyball uniforms so we need for this tournament to be a success. Your help would be much appreciated. Here is the link to sign up: http://signup.com/go/dPiiivf. There are many volunteer positions that our students can handle. We are asking for the volunteers to dress up if they like. The 3rd graders would love it!
Concert of Sacred Music: On Sunday, October 15, at 3 p.m., world-renowned singer, composer, and recording artist, ValLimar Jansen will be presenting a concert of sacred music at Saint Agnes Church. A freewill offering will be collected with proceeds going toward hurricane and earthquake relief.
Would You Like To Understand the MASS Better?: "The Lamb of God," "The Bread of Life," "The Body and the Blood of Christ"... these are phrases we know from the Mass. But do we understand what they mean in the greater and deeper context of Scripture and Church teaching? Attending Mass should bring us closer to Christ, but understanding it and praying it is often difficult. The good news is that you can understand the Mass, and “Lectio: Eucharist,” provides an opportunity for you to explore the “source and summit” of our Catholic faith. Saint Agnes will begin this video series on Wednesday, October 4, at 1 p.m., repeated at 7 p.m., in the rectory conference room. There is no fee and no book to purchase. Just come and enjoy! Why not come to Bible study before you pick up the kids from school every Wednesday? For more information or to register for the study please email email@example.com or call the rectory office at (859) 431-1802.
Rosary Congress for Peace: Saint Agnes Church will host Eucharistic Exposition and Adoration on October 10 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. During each hour of Adoration, a Rosary and the Divine Mercy Chaplet will be prayed.
