Mission Statement of Saint Agnes School
Saint Agnes School exists to provide excellence in Catholic education while inspiring and empowering our students to live the Gospel message of Jesus Christ. As compassionate and faithful Christians, we continue to pursue our spiritual journey, achieve our highest academic potential, and be stewards of the Catholic faith to others.
FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Next week will be a fun week. We are hosting our first Scholastic "Buy-One, Get-One Free" Book Fair. This is a great opportunity to pick up a few books for the kids forsummer reading. Students will have the opportunity to shop during their library time and the fair will also be open until 4 p.m. each day next week. Our faculty is in the process of finalizing some summer academic requirements and suggestions and will publish that soon. I do know that it is imperative that students not take time off from reading during the summer. Research says that students who read at least 20 minutes a day average in the 90th percentile on standardized test scores. Also, two main contributions to reading achievement are access to interesting books and student choice of books. We feel the book fair provides these opportunities for students. Also next week, we look forward to our Wildcat Bash and Talent Show on Friday, May 17. Parents, we need volunteers to help serve lunch on that day. Please see the announcement below to sign up.
You may have also heard this week we are celebrating "Friends Who Care Week." This is a combination of previous years' "Everybody Counts" and "Anti-Bullying Week." Today we have encouraged students to "mix it up" at lunch by having students sit with others who they may not normally sit and getting to know them. And each grade level is having an activity where they learn about various illnesses or exceptionalities. Special thanks to our faculty committee and parent volunteers for making these activities happen!
This week I would also like to highlight the number of our alums who received Governors' Scholars Program honors this year as noted in the announcement below. To have that many students from a school the size of ours named as Governors' Scholars in one year is a testament to their hard work, their parents, and our faculty and staff! ~ Mr. Hoyt
Saint Agnes Alums Receive Governors' Scholars Awards: Many of our Saint Agnes alums have recently been named Kentucky Governors' Scholar . These students have an opportunity to grow academically and professionally with a residential-life experience this summer. Saint Agnes alums who received Governors' Scholar Program (GSP) and/or Governors' Scholars for the Arts (GSA) honors for this year include:
Matthew Allison (GSP), Paul Allison (GSP), Chloe Collins (GSA and GSP), Ella David (GSP), Grace Eckerle (GSA and GSP), Allison Ehlman (GSP and GSA), Alaina Flesch (GSA), Kate Hail (GSP), John Lawrie (GSA alternate), and Gwyneth Thomas (GSA).
Scholastic "BOGO" Book Fair: Our final Scholastic Book Fair of the year will take place May 13-17. All books at this book fair will be "buy-one, get-one free." This is a great opportunity to find some books for summer reading! Students will be able to shop during library time or after school until 4 p.m. each day. Details on the book fair are coming home today. Here is the link to the Saint Agnes BOGO bookfair website: http://www.scholastic.
Service Hours Out-of-Uniform Day: For all students whose families meet their minimum service hours requirement (10 hours for individual parent, 20 hours for couple), an out-of-uniform day will be held on Thursday, May 16. Wildcat Bash / Talent Show Schedule: A couple highlight events of our school year, the Wildcat Bash and Talent Show, will occur on Friday, May 17. The Wildcat Bash events will begin at 9:30 a.m. (outside weather permitting) and the Talent Show will begin in the gym at 1:30 p.m. Please note that our 8th grade students are leading the game activities this year so we are not in need of volunteers for the games, just for serving lunch.
Wildcat Bash Volunteers: We need many volunteers to help serve lunch the day of the Wildcat Bash and Talent Show. If you would like to volunteer to help serve lunch the day of the Wildcat Bash/Talent Show, May 17, please email Mrs. Jansing at firstname.lastname@example.org.
