Mission Statement of Saint Agnes School
Saint Agnes Elementary School strives for excellence in providing a Catholic education that inspires and empowers our students to embrace the Gospel Message of Jesus Christ as compassionate and faithful Christians, who continue to pursue their spiritual journey, their highest academic potential, and stewardship to others.

Re-registration for Next School Year: We have many families who have not yet re-registered for next school year. During Catholic School Week, next week, we begin accepting outside of school registrations. If you have not re-registered and intend to send your children to St. Agnes for the 2011-2012 school year, do so now, in order to save your place!

Spiritwear Day Tomorrow: Students may wear a St. Agnes spiritwear shirt/sweatshirt with gym uniform pants/shorts or regular uniform pants/shorts tomorrow.

Catholic School Week: Check last week’s newsletter for all the activities.

Attention St. Agnes Alumni: We are celebrating our A+ Alumni with an all school prayer service on Monday, January 31 at 8:15 in the church. If you are a former student of St. Agnes, we are inviting you to come and join us in prayer as we begin our Catholic Schools Week Celebration. Let’s show our school spirit and commemorate the times spent here at our A+ school! We will have coffee and donuts for the alumni afterwards in our school foyer. Please come and celebrate with us.

Remember these details about the week:

Monday – 8:15 prayer service – St. Agnes Alumni and all parents invited!
Tuesday – bowling for all – bring a can of soup and permission slips!
Students may wear gym clothes for bowling.
Wednesday – liturgy at 6:00 followed by showcase; hope to see everyone!
Thursday – students may wear favorite sport team shirts
Friday – students may wear any Catholic School spiritwear (no shorts or pj’s)

FREE Admission to NKU Basketball Game: As a Catholic School Week promotion and in collaboration with the Department of Catholic Schools, NKU is offering free admission to the basketball games this Saturday 1/29. Information on the games, times, etc. is included in this flyer (available on our school website). You MUST present the flyer to get in for free.

Volunteers Needed: We are still in need of many volunteers to ensure our bowling field trip is a success next Tuesday! If you are available, please contact Brandy Franxman at franxman4@fuse.net  to sign up for any session. It is a great way to earn service hours! Remember, all volunteers need to be up-to-date on Virtus. Thanks, CSW Committee

Ice Cream Social: Once again this year we need volunteers for our annual Ice Cream social during Catholic School Week. It is Wednesday February 2nd. We meet in the cafeteria by 12:15 and are usually finished before dismissal. Please email lisa.lange@fuse.net.  Thanks to anyone who can help us out this year. Lisa Lange and Natalie Deglow

Science Fair Set-Up: On Monday, 1/31 @ 7:00pm we will be meeting in the gym to set-up for the Science Fair. This is a great opportunity for adults and 7th/8th graders to get service hours. If you are interested in helping, please e-mail Ann Flood at jflood3515@aol.com  or Jackie Flynn at kjaaaf5@fuse.net.  The more people we have helping, the quicker we can get finished! Thanks.

Snow Make Up: We have several school days to add to make up for our snow days missed. I certainly understand that no make-up plan will be the best for everyone. Some people have made plans or appointments for Presidents’ Day; some for spring break; some are involved in after school activities; so one plan will not fit all. Know that we know some students will miss some of the make-up days. That is okay. We tried to make the best schedule for learning and the best for most of the families and faculty. If you have plans, especially during spring break…we do not expect you to change them…but we tried to choose the best for all! Thanks for your cooperation in doing your best.
At this time our make-up days include coming to school on the following days:
All day on February 4th; come to school on Presidents’ Day, Feb. 21; come to school on March 18; and come to school on Monday April 11th. Again this is our school plan; do what you can, and say a prayer for no more snow! Thank you.

Your Generosity Warms Feet: As the cold winter weather continues to be the norm, the many shelters and agencies that received our donation of over 2,000 pairs of socks are most grateful. The socks were distributed to Welcome House, Covington Free Clinic - Feet Care Department, St. Augustine Outreach at City Heights, Be Con and Interfaith Hospitality Network. Thanks again to all of our families who were so generous. We all know the comfort of new warm socks, and because of your generosity, many others do also.

Board of Education News:

Service Hours Update: Look for a new entry process for updating your service hours on the School Website today. The new process (located on the left-hand side of the webpage) will let you add, edit, and delete entries, but most of all, allow you to see a list of all your entries along with a total of your hours. Please begin entering your hours with this new process, but do not enter any previous hours you have already submitted. We are in the process of transferring your existing hours, so look to see them shortly.
Thanks to everyone for all the hours that you give to the school and to the parish. Hope you find this new process more convenient. Please address any questions to servicehours@saintagnes.com.

Market Day: It’s cookie time!! All your favorites are back. It’s homemade taste minus the work with Market Day cookie dough. The more boxes we sell the more our school earns. If you have never ordered Market Day cookie dough before, I highly recommend Chocolate Mint Chip Cookie Dough, White Chocolate Macadamia Nut Cookie Dough and the Chocolate Chunk Cookie Dough. These seem to be the most popular and are a cinch to make!
The Market Day Sale deadline for this month is 2/3. Orders can be kidmailed through Aidan Mast – 2W. Order online at www.marketday.com  and get access to special Web Clearance only items. Pick Up will be on 2/8 at 5:30 in the school cafeteria.

365 Lotto: Congratulations go out to all those winners for January 2011. The February winners will be drawn Monday, January 31 in the school office instead of on doughnut Sunday due to family commitments. Once again we would like to thank all of the lotto supporters. We sold 1,380 tickets which resulted in a net profit of $7,200 for our school.
For the 2011 year, we are looking for volunteers to help us with the set up and drawing for the lotto on the first Sunday of each month (doughnut Sunday). Have a doughnut & coffee while earning some service hours at the same time. Any adult can help-school parents, parishioners & non-parishioners or just a friend of St. Agnes are all welcome to help. For more information on volunteering for the lotto drawing, please email Tish Bright at tish.bright@insightbb.com

Saint Agnes Bible Study: 1st Corinthians The great Catholic biblical scholar Father Raymond Brown once commented that the range of the Corinthians’ concerns (rival “theologians,” factions, problematic sexual practices, marital obligations, liturgy, church roles) made 1st Corinthians exceptionally instructive for Christians and churches of our times. We will use the New Collegeville Bible Commentary and meet for 10 weeks, from February 9th through April 13th. Wednesdays, 12:30 p.m., repeating at 7 p.m. Approximately 90 minutes. Bob Gerth leads. $10 contribution to cover book, supplies, etc. Pre-registration helpful. Call 859-431-1802 or e-mail bgerth@saintagnes.com

Did you know…that eighth grader, Rachel Peavler’s entry to the Scholastic Art Competition won her a Silver Key for the comic art category? Way to go, Rachel!!!

Did you know…that several seventh grade boys and their moms spent a Sunday making sandwiches for the Covington Cold Shelter. They delivered the food to the shelter and got a tour of the facility. The manager said their greatest need was backpacks, because many of the homeless people carry all their belongings in plastic bags. So….if you have any used backpacks or duffle bags at home you aren’t using, please send them into school. The boys would love to take them to the Covington Cold Shelter. Thanks!

Thank you, parents! I would like to thank the following people for their hard work and their willingness to judge the junior high social studies projects: Mrs. Ludovicy, Mr. and Mrs. Duell, Mrs. Kreinest, Mrs. Schaffstein, Mr. Zeis, Mrs. Moriarity, Mrs. Kleier, and Mr. and Mrs. Dollenmayer. I appreciate their time and talent in judging the projects for the upcoming Diocesan Competition. (Winners will be published in an upcoming newsletter.) You are the best! Sincerely, Mrs. Neiser
