Mission Statement of Saint Agnes School
Saint Agnes School exists to provide excellence in Catholic education while inspiring and empowering our students to live the Gospel message of Jesus Christ. As compassionate and faithful Christians, we continue to pursue our spiritual journey, achieve our highest academic potential, and be stewards of the Catholic faith to others.
FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Happy New Year to everyone! Last month our 8th grade students took the high school placement tests (HSPT) at our Diocesan high schools. Notre Dame Academy and Covington Catholic presented their annual HSPT scholarships during their information sessions on Monday night. We are proud to announce that six of our 8th graders received HSPT scholarships. Grace Heberling, Celia Brungs, Annamae Martin, and Kate Wainscott received the Academic Excellence and the Sister Mary Agnetis Scholarships The Academic Excellence Scholarships are renewable for four years if the girls maintain a 3.8 GPA and the Sister Mary Agnetis awards are for their freshman year. Jack Cain and Dimitri Dunn earned HSPT scholarships for Covington Catholic. Congratulations to these six students for their accomplishments!
~ Mr. Hoyt
No School Monday: Please remember that we will not be in school this Monday, January 15, in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
School Phone Call System: The telephone numbers that parents have updated in Sycamore School are the phone numbers used when we make school-wide phone calls (for school delays, closings, emergencies, etc.) Because we rely on an automated system for weather-related calls, we also send an email and contact the news stations in order to make every possible effort to reach parents. If you did not receive a phone call, please log in to the Sycamore School website and double-check the contact information on your account.
2018-19 School Registration: Registration forms for current students for the 2018-19 school year were sent home last week. Please fill those out and return them with $30 per student to the office by Wednesday, January 24. If you have any questions regarding registration please contact the school office.
Lower Tuition Payments: Is your family looking for a way to help with school tuition payments to a Diocesan school? Working Reds and Bengals games with like-minded parents can assist. Contact Mikkie Martin at 513-257-6904 or firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
No Lettuce Served in Cafeteria: We would like to inform you that all lettuce items will temporarily be taken off the lunch menu until further notice. With E.Coli cases found in lettuce in the United States, our Diocesan Lunch Program recommended we take all lettuce items off the menu for the time being. It is important to note that there were no recalls on lettuce that has previously been used in our cafeteria.
Artists of the Week: Congratulations to Aly Cain, Abby Hay, Mary Pikar, Nick Prospero, Candace Stallmeyer, and Lucas Miller. They are our "Artists of the Week." Check out their artwork at the end of the newsletter.

POP Party Thank You: Thank you to the hosts and all the parents that attended the POP kickoff party at Braxton's on Friday. It was a great success. Stay tuned and we will soon have a total amount of money raised . If you are interested in being a chaperone (mommy helpers or high school students who need service hours) for a Parent Night Out for grades K - 4 at the end of January, contact Meg Koehl. We are also still looking for other event ideas and hosts. Contact Meg Koehl or Heather Randolph with any questions and suggestions email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org
Spring Soccer Registration: Registration is now open for Saint Agnes spring soccer. Visit ky-stagnes.sportsaffinity.com to register or get more details. Registration is open to children ages 4 – 14. We are also in need of coaches for this season. Registration ends at midnight on Saturday, Feb. 3. Please contact Tim McHugh with questions at email@example.com.
Baseball: Registrations for baseball, machine pitch and T-ball are being accepted until January 30. Registration forms may be sent through kid mail, C/O of Brian F. in 5W. Sign-up forms are available here. As a guideline, instructional teams (T-ball and machine pitch) will begin practice in early April and games begin around the first week of May. Once the games start, practice usually stops. Instructional games are tentatively scheduled on Wednesday or Thursday evening and the season lasts about eight weeks. 8U - 14U teams generally start practice in early March (weather permitting) with league games starting in mid-April and going through June. Teams will generally practice one night per week and play 1-2 games per week (approx. 14 league games). Practice schedules/nights are not known until teams are formed and coaches are determined. For any other questions, please contact Paul Finke via email at firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone at (859) 814-4979. Teams will be participating in the Crosstown Baseball League again this year.
Play Like A Champion Coach Training: As of January 1, all youth coaches in our Diocese should have participated in a Play Like A Champion youth coaches' training before being permitted to coach. The next training session in our Diocese is on Monday, February 12, from 6:30-9:30 p.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church. This is an ideal training time for any coaches planning on coaching spring sports who have not already been PLAC-trained. Mr. Hoyt will be presenting at this training. You may register for this training session through your Virtus account. Please let Mr. Hoyt know if you have questions.

Scholarship Tax Credit Call to Action: The Kentucky General Assembly is considering two Scholarship Tax Credit bills this legislative session - House Bill 134 and Senate Bill 36. These bills would create a Scholarship Tax Credit Program in Kentucky which will increase tuition assistance and provide students with the opportunity to pursue an education at a school that best fits their unique needs. If passed, the legislation will establish a nonrefundable tax credit for individuals and businesses who donate to fund K-12 scholarships for students. These scholarships help families afford the cost of nonpublic school tuition or other important educational services. Momentum is growing for Scholarship Tax Credits. The first vote on Scholarship Tax Credits will be held on Thursday (tomorrow) during the Senate Committee on Education hearing. That's why we need you to act quickly and contact your Representative and Senator and encourage them to support HB 134 and SB 36! You may use this link below or call 1-800-372-7181 to urge your legislators to support HB 134 and SB 36. If you use the form, it will send your message directly to your legislator. 529 Plan Updates: Some recent changes to 529 Plans were made effective on January 1, 2018. Most notable changes include the ability to contribute funds for a child’s K-12 education, in addition to their college education, and the amount an individual may contribute to a 529 plan. We are not providing this information as financial advice. More information on 529 plans can be found here.
