Mission Statement of Saint Agnes School
Saint Agnes School exists to provide excellence in Catholic education while inspiring and empowering our students to live the Gospel message of Jesus Christ. As compassionate and faithful Christians, we continue to pursue our spiritual journey, achieve our highest academic potential, and be stewards of the Catholic faith to others.
FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Next Wednesday is Ash Wednesday and begins the season of Lent. This year Ash Wednesday falls on another important day of the liturgical calendar, St. Valentine's Day. St. Valentine's Day is, obviously, a very joyful date on the liturgical calendar while Ash Wednesday is a more solemn day. In their most recent newsletter, the Sisters of Notre Dame Education Office very accurately shared the parallels of these celebrations: St. Valentine's Day and Ash Wednesday are both about our hearts - the former about celebrating earthly love and the latter about opening our hearts to Christ and preparing to accept a gift far greater than cards, candy, or roses. ~ Mr. Hoyt
Junior High Science Fair: We had another successful Junior High Science Fair last Wednesday. Congratulations to all of our students for their hard work and to those students who received special recognition.
Church Parking Lot: When all possible please avoid using the church parking spots in the middle of the lot during the school day. This will help with car line procedures at the end of the day. Also, as the weather gets warmer you will find people using the outdoor basketball courts after school. For your car’s security you should avoid using the parking spots under the basketball goals after school hours when possible.
Ash Wednesday Mass: Next Wednesday, February 14, is Ash Wednesday and begins the season of Lent. Our school will attend the 8:30 a.m. Mass on Ash Wednesday.
Lenten Prayers and Almsgiving: Our theme for Lent will be “Sharing Our Love Worldwide.” Our daily prayers will reflect that theme. Each week we will pray for a different continent, beginning with North America. By the end of Lent we will have prayed for the people on each continent.) Another way Catholics live their faith during Lent is through almsgiving (giving to the poor). Our almsgiving project will be “Sharing our Love” in one part of the world - Uganda.
Each Thursday during Lent we will again be collecting money for five students to be able to attend St. Julie School in Buseesa, Uganda. For all students who make at least a one-dollar donation, February 15 and March 15 will be out-of-uniform days. We will have a bar graph measuring how much we have collected for each student. Our goal will be to collect $3000 as each student needs $600 to attend St. Julie School.
Day Off School March 2: Please remember that Friday, March 2, will be our designated day off school from Bishop Foys’ announcement at last week’s Catholic Schools Week Mass.
Good Luck 5th Grade Academic Team: Our 5th Grade Academic Team will be hosting the Elementary Governors’ Cup competition this Saturday at Saint Agnes! Good luck!
