Mission Statement of Saint Agnes School
Saint Agnes School exists to provide excellence in Catholic education while inspiring and empowering our students to live the Gospel message of Jesus Christ. As compassionate and faithful Christians, we continue to pursue our spiritual journey, achieve our highest academic potential, and be stewards of the Catholic faith to others.
FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Unfortunately, we still have yet to receive the Terra Nova standardized test reports taken this past spring by our 2nd-7th graders. We, like all other Catholic schools in the Diocese of Covington, are very disappointed in the service that Terra Nova has provided. The Diocese has terminated the contract with Terra Nova and we will have a new testing service this school year. Our new service will be MAP testing.
MAP is more of a formative testing process. Instead of taking one summative assessment near the end of the school year, MAP testing will be administered three times during the school year. This will provide our faculty more data to use to drive teacher instruction.
Last spring our faculty had discussed adopting a progress-monitoring tool and we were actually looking into using MAP testing, in addition to any mandated-standardized test. Despite the poor service from Terra Nova, I see this as a “win” in that we will be adopting a testing service that we had already identified as an enhancement to our school. I am confident that you will like the reports provided after testing. We will be providing more information on MAP testing in the near future. ~ Mr. Hoyt
Spirit Wear Day Tomorrow: Tomorrow will be the first spirit wear day of the school year. Students may wear any Saint Agnes top with their uniform bottoms or gym uniform shorts. Any spirit wear purchased from the PTO’s spirit wear program is acceptable. Orders for spirit wear from the PTO will be taken soon. Please be sure to check the newsletter for updates.
Late-Start Day Next Wednesday: Our first late-start day of the school year occurs next Wednesday, September 6. The school cafeteria doors will open for students beginning at 8:10 a.m. The school day will begin at 8:45 a.m.
Back-to-School Night – Thursday, September 7: We look forward to welcoming all of our parents to school next Thursday, September 7, for Back-to-School Night. Teachers in grades 1-5 will begin the evening meeting with parents of their students. Each teacher will have a 15-minute session at 6:30 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. All parents will gather in the gym at approximately 7:10 p.m. for remarks from our administration. Junior high teachers will meet with grades 6-8 parents in the gym following the all-parent assembly at approximately 7:45 p.m. Kindergarten teachers will not be available that evening because they met with parents during the Kindergarten parent meeting earlier in August.
Choir Rehearsals: School choir rehearsals begin this Thursday from 2:45 - 3:30 p.m. in the music room. This year choir is open to all students in grades 5-8. Please email Ms. Mason (firstname.lastname@example.org) with any questions.
Room Parents/Homeroom Helpers: It's that time of year again when you are able to sign up to be a Room Parent or Homeroom Helper for your child's classroom. Please consider doing this as the kids and teachers need your support! The form is attached here. Please note that you MUST be Virtus-compliant to be either a Room Parent or Homeroom Helper. Playground Volunteer Sign-up: The sign-up for volunteers is now available at http://signup.com/go/oOJeYZD. Currently, parents may sign up for grades K-3 recess assistance. Please remember that you must be Virtus-compliant to volunteer.
Volunteer Needed - We are looking for a volunteer to help us with our school health records. Nursing or healthcare experience is helpful and a new volunteer could "shadow" this year in order to start next school year. This volunteer opportunity only involves coming in a few times a year to check all the student health records/immunization forms to ensure we are compliant with state requirements. Book Fair: Our Scholastic Book Fair’s “Wild West Family Night” will take place Wednesday, September 13. School families and guests are welcome to shop the Book Fair from 6-8 p.m. that evening.
Skyline Eat-Out Night: Welcome back to the new school year. One of our longstanding fundraisers is the Skyline Eat-Out Night. Traditionally, it is the first Monday of each month. Because of Labor Day, the next Skyline Night will be Wednesday, September 6, from 3-9 p.m. Saint Agnes School will receive 20% of the sales on this night. Either show the attached flyer (click here) or tell your server you are with Saint Agnes so we receive credit for the sale.
Preschool Religion: My name is Stacey Moorhead and I am organizing the Preschool Religion Program at Saint Agnes. This is my first year heading this program and I am excited to be involved in such a wonderful group. Our teachers are eager to get back to the work of sharing the Lord’s love and teachings with our small, but spirited faithful! If your child is ages 3-5 (and potty trained) and would like to be a part of this program please fill out and return the enrollment form. Please have your enrollment form turned into me by no later than September 8. The fee for the program is $40; if cost is an issue, please contact me and we can work something out.
We are always in need of helping hands for PSR. If you would like to offer some time to enrich the program, we would love to have you! All adult volunteers must be VIRTUS-compliant at all times when working with the children. We also welcome older students (Grades 6-12) to join us as aides. A Message from RCIA: Are you searching for… a deeper relationship with God, a sense of belonging in a faith community, a greater understanding of your mission in life? Have you ever been curious about the difference between the Catholic and Protestant Bibles, about how Catholics relate to Mary and the saints, about what Catholics believe in regard to the moral issues of our day, or about what your children are learning in religion class at Saint Agnes? Come and join us in the RCIA process at Saint Agnes to learn about the Catholic faith. We meet every Sunday after the 9:30 a.m. Mass in the rectory conference room (under the deck on the big parking lot side of Church). All are welcome! Oktoberfest: The 3rd Annual Saint Agnes Oktoberfest will be held October 6-8. Oktoberfest is one of our great parish events that has enabled our school tuition to increase only 0.5 percent over the past two years. Our school families who are parish members recently received their raffle tickets. Please try to sell those raffle tickets and return sales to the school or parish office. More information will be forthcoming on how to volunteer during Oktoberfest weekend. The schedule for the weekend’s activities can be found here. Children's Choir: Our Children's Choir is directed by Mr. Bobby Fischer. Click here for information on joining. The first rehearsal is August 30.
Basketball: The Saint Agnes Boosters field basketball teams for boys and girls currently enrolled at Saint Agnes School in grades 3-8. We will also host a six or seven-week instructional basketball session for boys and girls in K-2 (This is held on Sunday afternoons beginning in late October or early November). To continue this program we need a parent to volunteer to become the Director for this K-2 Program. This year we are also looking to offer the possibility of entering 2nd grade boys and girls teams in leagues, depending upon interest. If your 2nd grade son or daughter would like to play in a league outside of Saint Agnes, please indicate on your registration. All registrations this year for basketball teams (grades 2-8) and instructional (K-2) should be mailed to Ken Schneider at 1644 Chestnut Ct., Ft. Wright, KY 41011, or sent through kid mail (attention McKenna Schneider in 1W).
Attached here you will find a copy of the Basketball Registration Form, which must be completed and returned with a check for $80 per child for grades 2-8 for leagues and $20 per child for those interested in the K-2 instructional program. We must receive a separate form for each child participating; however, we will accept one check per family. The family max is $180.00. All checks should be made payable to Saint Agnes Boosters. Registration forms must be received on or before Friday, September 15, to guarantee your child(ren) a spot on a team or in the instructional league. If accepted after that date, an additional fee of $25 per child will be charged for all registrations received after September 15.
Concession Stand Volunteers Needed: We are looking for volunteers to staff the Saint Agnes Soccer Field Concession stand on Saturdays this fall season. You do not have to be participating in soccer to volunteer. If you are interested in helping please sign-up via this link: www.SignUpGenius.com/go/409094BA5AA2BA3F85-concession. Smiles & Miles 5K Run/Walk: The Smiles & Miles 5K, honoring Maria Schaffstein, will be held on Sunday, September 17. The event begins at 4 p.m. and is open to individuals of all ages and fitness levels. The Katie Stewart Memorial Frog Hop will be returning for a second year! This event will be available for children ages six and under and was very well received during its inauguration in 2016. Any student participating in the 2017 Smiles and Miles 5K run/walk event may wear their Smiles and Miles t-shirt or a Smiles and Miles t-shirt from past years on September 22.

Notre Dame Urban Education Center: The NDUEC is registering students for the 2017-18 school year. If you would like information on their program, contact the school office and we will send you a packet of details.
Dr. Scott Hahn, LIVE at St. Cecilia Church, Independence KY: Join St. Cecilia Parish in Independence for a one-day speaking event with world renowned speaker, Dr. Scott Hahn. former Presbyterian minister, who once spoke against the Catholic faith, is now a prolific Roman Catholic author and professor at the Franciscan University of Steubenville, Ohio, where he has taught for over 23 years. His conversion story and unique perspective as minister and scripture scholar have helped many to discover or re-affirm their faith with a new love and appreciation. Dr. Hahn’s visit to Independence is currently the only one scheduled in the tri-state area for his 2017-2018 appearances. Make plans now to attend on Saturday, September 9, from 10 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 and include materials and journals, boxed lunch w/ deli sandwich, chips, cookie, and a drink. Concerts for Catholic Schools - Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder - Saturday September 23: The Cincy Music series is kicking of the 2017 - 2018 concert series on Saturday, September 23, with Bluegrass and Country Music legend Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder at Mount St. Joseph University at 7:30 p.m. Ricky has compiled an All-Star line-up which comprises Kentucky Thunder.
