Welcome to 6th Grade Social Studies!!

This course blends the study of geography and history of the world. We will explore a number of ancient civilizations in their geographic context. Each civilization has a legacy for us to learn. We will ask the basic questions: What was it like to live there? & Why are these civilizations so important? We are going to study as many chapters as we reasonably can complete. Our pace is partly determined by the interest each lesson generates. You may find yourselves borrowing your child's book more than you had expected. Do you know what the Egyptians are famous for? Who is Hammurabi? What is the Rosetta Stone? What was going on in China the same time as Jesus? Who gave us algebra? Each day begins with a Daily Geography Activity (better known as DGA). It will be about a 5 minute opportunity for practice in map-reading and other geography skills. In advance, thank you for your support. If anyone has expertise or special interest in an ancient civilization or like topic please let me know. I am looking forward to having a great social studies class! Mrs. Smith |
