Welcome to 4th Grade Math - Mrs. Smith

Welcome to 4th grade math!  This year, we will begin each class with DAP (daily arithmetic practice).  It is a great way to review previously taught math skills.  We will also start the year off with weekly review of basic facts.  It is so important for the students to have a good knowledge of our basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts before we move on to higher level math work.  We will cover addition and subtraction of larger numbers, and this year we will also learn to multiply and divide larger numbers. As we move through the school year, we will do work with adding and subtracting fractions and decimals.  Mrs. Lape and I plan a monthly math class that involves the two math classes joining together to work on a specific math activity.  Usually, there will be math homework every evening Monday through Thursday. This homework reinforces the math concept that was taught in class that day.  My goal this year is to give your child a solid foundation with math concepts and at the same time develop a love for math.
