Online Resources for Students and Parents

Looking for some extra help for your students?  Try some of these fun web sites!  (Parents:  These links will take you out of the St. Agnes Website!)

General

  • Web Activities for K-12:  http://edtech.kennesaw.edu/web/teaching.htm  You choose your grade level and subject.  HUNDREDS of activities for your child!  This is one of my favorite web sites!  It is a fantastic resource that your child will love to use over and over again.  Bookmark it as one of your favorites, too!
  • Family Education:  www.familyeducation.com  A parent portal grouped preK-2, 3-5 and 6-12.  Great resources for school (skill-builder activities, games and hot topic answers), entertainment (games, printables, family projects), and life (health, safety, family issues and travel).
  • Kid's Domain:  www.kidsdomain.com  Free software, online games and links for reading, printables, clip art, and more!
  • KidZone:  www.kidzone.ws  This FUN FACTS site has thematic units, online games for math and language arts, animal and geography facts, magic tricks, timed quizzes for math facts, or you can even download free books!
  • Gamequarium:  www.gamequarium.com  There are over 1500 links to online games!  Kids can practice skills while enjoying these fun games!
  • Funbrain:  www.funbrain.com  A favorite with many of our students!  Games for all areas, by grade, with difficulty levels and scores.
  • Rainbow Magic:  www.rainbow-magic.com  Activities offers puzzles, travel games, and boredom busters.  Write your own story in Reading or find great kids' sites by clicking on Links.

 

Reading

  • Reading is FUNdamental ~ Summer:  www.rif.org   Lots of fun games for summer reading.

  • Book Adventure:  www.bookadventure.com  Free reading motivation program by Sylvan Learning.  Parents can register to monitor reading, and students make their own reading lists and take quizzes for prizes!

 

Spelling

  • Houghton Mifflin Spelling Website:  http://eduplace.com/kids/sv/  This spelling website is for grades 1-6.  It goes along with our Spelling books that we use here at St. Agnes!  Just click on your grade level and choose which unit you are working on.  There are games and activities to practice your weekly spelling words!

Math

  • Houghton Mifflin Math Website:  www.eduplace.com/kids/mw/  This math website coordinates with our math series this year!  You can click on your grade level (K-6) and the chapter you are working on.  It gives you practice games to reinforce what we are learning in school!
     

  • Learning Planet:  http://www.learningplanet.com/stu/kids0.asp  Choose your level (preK-6) and test out these fun math games!

Parent Resources

  • Child and Family Webguide:  www.cfw.tufts.edu  This is a fantastic site featuring hundreds of research-based resources for parents.  Search by categories, topics by age, or do an index search.

 

Research Help

  • Wikipedia:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page  This is an online, FREE encyclopedia. 

  • Ask Jeeves:  www.ask.com  This is a "search engine" where you can find information, pictures, etc.  There is also a "kid friendly" version for younger students for finding information or interactive games at http://www.askforkids.com/.  Ask for Kids includes study help in these areas:  Dictionary, Thesaurus, Almanac, Geography, Science, Clip Art, Astronomy, World Atlas, Math Help, and History.

  • Kenton County Online Database:  http://www.kenton.lib.ky.us/eresources.html  (You need your library card number to access these items.)  This is the Virtual Library, and it offers such things as access to current and past periodical articles; contemporary authors; literary criticism, and opposing viewpoints from Gale; CultureGrams; World Book Encyclopedia; Oxford Reference Online; Big6; SAT & ACT test preparation and more!  EBSCO (the database the provides access to newspaper and magazine articles) will be providing a new interface, developed specifically for students to make it easier to use.  What a great resource when researching information for those papers!
